INTRODUCTIONS: Brian K. called the meeting to order at 10:35 AM with the Serenity

Prayer followed by introductions.

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED? A quorum was met. The following meetings

were represented: 012, 022, 023, 047, 076, 084, 185, 229, and 268.

TRADITIONS: Tradition 12: Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever

reminding us to place Principles before Personalities. was read from the book of Nicotine

Anonymous.

TREASURER REPORT: December 2012 Report Beginning balance $274.78.

Donations: Mtg #84 $15.00, 7th tradition $23.00 (total incoming $38.00). Expenses:

Bank Fee $3.00, AT&T Long Distance $24.37, Registrar $38.43, Secretary (Oct. and

Nov.) $74.90 (total outgoing $137.70). Ending balance $175.08. The report was moved

and approved. Donations are down, we would like to ask the meetings to send a

donation, even a few dollars will help.

Registrar Report: No changes were made to the Administration List. Meeting Contact

Information was updated on 1 meeting. 1 Meeting was added. No Meetings have gone

dark. All meetings except for 272 in the Directory have USPS contact through either the

Secretary, the Representative, or both. No H&I Listings were added or deleted.

77 envelopes were addressed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS: No report and we need a new H&I Chairman.

Please let us know if you can help with this responsibility.

COMMUNICATIONS: No reports, no concerns.

LITERATURE: We are in full stock on supplies. We are fully stocked with the new

colored chips. We have a few copies of the Newcomers Booklet. The Carry The

Message project is coming up in January. Please come to the intergroup meeting next

month to pick up your supplies. We will provide each group with some materials. We

will also add a note to the meeting list to remind people to Carry The Message. We

are ordering 2,000 business cards. Please call or email Marty W. at 714-536-0600

WORLD SERVICES: We’re getting our website up-to-date and we have a new CD of

meditations. Should be for sale in the next couple of months.

EVENTS: The Anaheim meeting is hosting their post-holiday dinner on Wednesday,

January 9th, please join them at the Sizzler, 1401 N Harbor, Fullerton at 6:30 pm.

NEW MEETINGS. A starter kit will be mailed out to Long Beach.

PUBLIC OUTREACH/SPEAKERS BUREAU/BY-LAWS: We still need Chairpersons

for the following: By-Laws, Speakers Bureau, and Hospitals and Institutions (H&I),

so please let us know if you can help . If interested please come to the Intergroup

meeting. We are compiling a list of speakers. Please let us know if you are willing to be

a speaker. Please think about being a sponsor to someone who only has access to online

or phone meetings. Asa A. has offered to be our Public Outreach chair.

WEB CZAR: As we move forward with the modernization - We can now have

more information on our website. Brian K would like people to contribute and sign

up to be contributors for the website. Now, Committee members can update and

add information for their committees directly to the Website and to make sure that

the information is the most current and up-to-date as possible. If you want to be a

contributor to the website - Contact quitnowla@gmail.com.

We are looking for new ways to use technology for carry the message - Such as

Sending the PSA to Radio Stations, Emailing Literature, signs and information to

Doctors, etc. If you have ideas of ways to carry the message using the internet, please

share with us your thoughts! And if you have not yet signed up for the Email list please

go to the website - www.scina.org or www.quitnowlaw.com add yourself to the list!

Southern California Intergroup of Nicotine Anonymous

INTRODUCTIONS: George O. called the meeting to order at 10:35 AM with the
Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED? A quorum was met. The following meetings
were represented: 012, 022, 023, 047, 076, 084, 185, 268.

TRADITIONS: Tradition 11: Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than
promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, television,
and films. was read from the book of Nicotine Anonymous.

TREASURER REPORT: October 2012 Report Beginning balance $438.05.  Donations: Mtg #76 $50.00, 7th tradition $10.00 (total $60.00). Expenses: Bank Fee $3.00, AT&T Long Distance $16.77, Marathon $165.00, Registrar $38.50, (total $223.77) Ending balance $274.78. On November 11th, George O., Brian K., Tomoko B. and Bill H. met at the Bank of America by USC to put Bill on the bank account, and to add a branch account for the World Services Conference in April 2013 (Long Beach). For the Marathon meeting, Joseph was given a check for $165 for the room and expenses. He provided receipts for $125 for room and $53.61 expenses = $178.61;
He was reimbursed $13.61 cash from event’s 7th tradition. The report was moved and approved.

Registrar Report: Jeff M was removed from Bylaws, H&I, and Outreach Commitments on Administration List. Meeting 001, Meeting 257 and Meeting 229 information was updated. No Meetings were added. All meetings in the Directory have USPS contact through the Secretary, the Representative, or both. No H&I Listings were added and none were removed. 77 envelopes were addressed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS: No report and we need a new H&I Chairman.

COMMUNICATIONS: No reports, no concerns.

LITERATURE: We are in full stock on supplies. Based on suggestions, we now have
various colors for chips and are fully stocked with the new colored chips. We need
to determine if we want to order additional handouts for outreach project in January.
George O will contact Gregory B. and order a minimum supply of business cards. When
Brian K. designs a new business card we will order a full supply.

WORLD SERVICES: Gary went to Oakland for the meeting 10/27-29/12 . They are
going to have Glen K. do the audio recording for the conference. They are discussing
updating the website to make changes to make it easier to use. Amazon is selling our
books on Kindle. Newcomer booklet will be orange and you can read it online for free
temporarily under ‘What’s New.’ A hard copy will be available in January for $4. The
registration form for the World Services Conference in April is on the www.SCINA.org
website, please pass out at your meetings. Working on ‘The Best of Seven Minutes.’
Working on possible workshops such as meditation workshop, spirituality workshop
(what does it mean to you), and outreach to the medical profession. Gary is also snail
mail coordinator so please contact Gary if you know anyone that can only communicate
via snail mail.

EVENTS: The marathon meeting was held at Calvary Baptist Church. Thank you to
Joseph W. and Gregory B for setting it up and hosting.

EVENTS:

 The picnic was wonderful and new officers were elected.  The Marathon Meeting flier is on the website.  There are 3 slots left at this time if your group wants to  take one of them.  Please call Joseph W. at 562-644-5225 to reserve a spot or if you need more information.

 July Report

EVENTS:

The retreat was held in Joshua Tree on June 23-June 24. The event was very successful, with 22 people sleeping over, and 10 day participants. All the bills related to this event have been settled. George R. has reserved Rush Park in Rossmoor for the annual picnic on the third Sunday in September. Mary designed a wonderful flyer with details about the picnic to be posted on the website. Please remind your members that this is our Annual Election of Officers Meeting.  If you are interested in serving the membership at the Intergroup level, please attend. Directions to the park are printed on the August Directory. After the Annual picnic, the Marathon Meeting in November will be the next event.

WORLD SERVICES:

The Golden Sails Resort Hotel in Long Beach will be the location for World Services Conference 2013 on April 26th - 28th. Prices of registration and meals will be determined next month. SCINA will need volunteers for various chair positions for the conference. More information will follow. Mary designed a beautiful logo for the conference and offered to make the registration form for the conference. An online registration form will be developed as well.

EVENTS:

 The retreat will be held in Joshua Tree on June 23-June 24. The cost of the retreat is $120.  We have about 19 people who have committed so far, but we need one more person to commit to attending the retreat. Please consider making a donation to the retreat to help sponsor someone who may not be able to afford to attend. Please contact Jane H. at (323) 852-1518 if you are interested in attending and/or making a donation. For the people who will be attending: please bring a towel if you will use the swimming pool, a drum for the drum circle and a flashlight. This will be an amazing event! In addition, George R. reserved Rush Park in Rossmoor for the annual picnic on the third Sunday in September.

MINUTES - April 15, 2012

Southern California Intergroup of Nicotine Anonymous

INTRODUCTIONS: George O. called the meeting to order at 10:14 AM with the Sereity Prayer followed by introductions. 

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED?  Yes, a quorum was met.

TRADITIONS: Tradition 4:  Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or Nicotine Anonymous as a whole  was read from the book Nicotine Anonymous.

TREASURER REPORT:  We started with $399.99 in Feb. We had $309.00 in donations ($50 from meeting #1 West Hollywood, $45 from meeting #84 Fullerton, $149 from meeting #229 Silverlake, $25 from meeting 241 Glendale, and $40 from meeting 250 Bellflower)  and $12.00 for our 7th tradition. Our expenses were $18.97 for outreach. $43.68 for secretary, $43.82 for registrar and ended with $614.52. 


REGISTRAR’S REPORT:  Rick W reports no changes were made on the Administration List. Meeting 059 Phone Contact and Secretary information was updated.  Meeting 271, Long Beach Alano Club, Friday 6:00pm, was added. Meeting 089 in San Bernardino was removed, by request of Mike, the Meeting Secretary. This month, all meetings have USPS contact through either a Secretary, a Representative, or both. The H&I Listings are stable, with none added and none removed. 5 envelopes were printed to Secretaries, 18 to Representatives, and 5 to Administrators for a total of 48 envelopes addressed to those serving the Membership, and 37 envelopes were addressed to H&I organizations. Total number printed is 84.

COMMUNICATIONS:  No reports, no concerns

LITERATURE:  We received our big literature order. We still need to order some 10 minute chips. We can get multi-colored chips from Crossroads. A check bounced from one of the groups - Marty will follow up. A donation was deposited into the literature account, and Marty will transfer the $50 to the Intergroup account. 

WORLD SERVICES:  Our reserve is fine. The conference is coming up this weekend in Albuquerque, NM. There may be some people who cannot attend because of the high altitude and economic conditions. The surveys regarding Gender Neutrality was recommended not to be brought up for a vote, however, the 11th tradition may be brought to a vote at the conference. We finally got the Newcomers booklet on line at this time in PDF format on nicotine-anonymous.org. World Services will also have a CD meditation. That will be voted upon in the near future. We will have 6 workshops coming up at the conference. World Services is working on PayPal issues. Gary put a motion in to add email to the online store so people can contact World Services. We have 2 delegates for this year’s conference. As far as next year’s conference is concerned, George O. got some estimates for hotel accommodations. 

EVENTS: Jane is working on the annual retreat in Joshua Tree. There have been quite a few people who are interested this year. We have about 12 people who have committed so far, but we need 20 people to commit or we will have to cancel the retreat. Please contact Jane H. at (323) 852-1518 if you are interested in attending.
George O. will contact George R. who is working on organizing the annual picnic in September but he can’t reserve it until April. Here is your chance to become an OFFICER FOR INTERGROUP! Freedom Festival will be held in Costa Mesa on June 10, 2012. NicA has been invited to participate. More information will be included in next month’s minutes.

MINUTES FEBRUARY 19, 2012   SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERGROUP OF NICOTINE ANONYMOUS

INTRODUCTIONS: George O. called the meeting to order at 10:09 AM with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED?  A quorum was met with 14 members in attendance.

TRADITIONS: Tradition 2:  For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority-- a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern was read from the book Nicotine Anonymous.

TREASURER REPORT:  Beginning cash balance including donations totaled $501.67. Meeting donations totaled $185.  Other income $21.  Total paid out was $307.68. Ending balance totaled $399.99.

REGISTRAR’S REPORT:  Rick W. reported that no H&I meetings were added and no H&I meetings removed last month. Meeting 090: updated Secretary Address, Meeting 231: Updated Representative Address, Meeting 270: Updated Phone Contact 1 and Phone Contact 2 information. Meeting 059 has been re-listed on World Services, albeit without an identifying National Number, and has been restored to our Directory.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS:  No report. No concerns.

COMMUNICATIONS:  The phone line is working again.

LITERATURE:  Marty was not able to take Mike S. off of the Union Bank account. We had $1288.13 on Dec 20th, 2011. Two checks were written -- one to Jim T. for $131.50 to buy back literature and one for $165.88 to Marty for an order that he placed. Marty inventoried the chips last month and will inventory literature this month. Marty will send Brian K. a Price List to put on the website. All in all everything is running smoothly.

WORLD SERVICES:  Gary reported that the redesigned World Services website will be completed soon and will have the free pdf. version of 7 minutes. Gary M. has resigned as publisher of 7 Minutes and the new publisher is Lynne M. The World Services Treasurer elect, Andy W. resigned as well and Gary M. will continue as Treasurer for the following year. World services has sent out a survey regarding two issues and a meeting update form to everyone on their mailing list. Please fill it out and send it back in. Mary P. has copies of the registration form for the World Services Conference 2012 in Albuquerque New Mexico on April 20-22. The registration form and all other information is on the http://nica-wsc2012.com website. In April 2013, the World Services Conference will be held in Los Angeles. George O. needs volunteers. INTRODUCTIONS:  George O. called the meeting to order at 10:13 AM with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.

TRADITIONS:  Tradition 1:  Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends on Nicotine Anonymous unity was read.

TREASURER REPORT:  Beginning cash balance including donations totaled $538.55. Meeting donations totaled $28.00. Total paid out was $177.17. Ending balance totaled $501.77.

REGISTRAR’S REPORT:  Rick W. reported Mike S. has been removed from the Literature Service Position of the Service Position Roster. Meeting 254: Updated Secretary, Representative, and Phone Contact information. Meeting 257: Time of meeting changed from 7:30 to 7:00 p.m. No meetings were added or removed in the past month. The following meetings lack valid Secretary USPS mailing address: Meeting 047.

COMMUNICATIONS:  The 800 phone number is back up. Please refer to SCINA.org or  Quitnowla.com. for information. SCINA is considering removing the 800 number and moving towards a free web-based communication system.

LITERATURE:  Marty was able to activate the Union Bank account and deposit money into that account. A motion was made to remove Mike Stobaugh’s name from the Union Bank account. The motion was approved. Marty will inventory chips this month and literature next month. Marty will send Brian K. a Price List to put on the website.

WORLD SERVICES

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERGROUP OF NICOTINE ANONYMOUS


INTRODUCTIONS:  George O. called the meeting to order at 10:19 AM with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED?  A quorum was met with 11 members in attendance.

TRADITIONS:  Tradition 12:  Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities was read.

SECRETARY REPORT:  A motion was made to approve the minutes at the end of each meeting. The motion passed. A motion was made to include the content of the October minutes in these December minutes for mailing purposes. The motion passed. The November minutes were read and approved.

TREASURER REPORT:  In September, we started with $384.06, $118 in donations, $11 in 7th tradition, $100 from the 7th tradition at picnic. We paid out $100 for the picnic, $50 for long distance, $66.20 for Secretary, $37.23 for Registrar and ended with $359.63.  Consolidated Oct. and Nov. started with $359.63, plus $100 in donations, we paid $200 for long distance, $72.58 and Secretary and $74.76 Registrar expenses, leaving us with ending cash of $112.29. It was moved and seconded to approve the Treasurer’s report.

REGISTRAR’S REPORT:  Rick W. reported there were no new meetings added or removed. Mike S., Literature address was deleted and mailing was suspended. Marty W. was removed from Co-Chair position per last month’s discussion.  Meeting 047 was deleted due to Inactive Phone contact information. Meetings 047 and 254 lack a valid Secretary USPS mailing address.

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS:  No report. Gary M. and George O. continue working with Kaiser.

There was discussion around storing the chips and literature at the hospital. Kimberly H. has offered to help organize the chips and literature materials. We will do an inventory at our next SCINA meeting.

WORLD SERVICES
World Services Conference 2012 will be in Albuquerque New Mexico on April 20-22. All information will be on the website. Discussion at the last World Services Board meeting revolved around the following: Shipping costs on Literature went down to $5.95. There was also discussion around Gender Neutrality. You can get information about participating in the survey at Secretary@nicotineanonymous.org. Please consider Live and Give as an ongoing donation.  In April 2013, the World Services Conference will be held in Los Angeles. George O. needs volunteers need. Marty W. read the minutes of September 18, 2011. The minutes were corrected but will not be approved until the November Meeting 11/13/2011.

There was no report this month.

Rick W. reported there were no new meetings added. Meeting 270 was removed because of inability to meet rent requirements. Meeting 252 is being removed because they do not use the Nicotine Anonymous Program and have been out of touch for a long period of time. Meeting 254 does not have a secretary but their address is accurate.

Traditions:  Tradition Nine  “Nicotine Anonymous ought never be organized; but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve” was read from the publication “The Twelve Traditions of Nicotine Anonymous”.  

Secretary report:  Susan C. read the minutes of the August 21, 2011 meeting. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded, and approved to accept them. 

               

Treasurer report:  Tomoko B. reported that in August we started with 266.69. We had meeting donations of $172 plus $35 Intergroup donations. Expenses totaled 89.63 leaving an ending balance of $384.06.  It was moved, seconded and approved to accept the Treasurer’s report. 

Registrar’s report: Rick W. reported that there were no meetings added or removed in the past month. Meeting 252 will probably be dropped from the next directory. Meeting 254 does not have a secretary listed but the representative address is accurate. There were no additions or deletions from the H&I listings.


Committee Reports

Hospitals & Institutions  No concerns at this time. Gary M. and George O. are continuing to do the Kaiser panel in Downey.

Literature: Mike S. reported that he reordered literature so we are doing well on that. He also made Welcome Packets. Mike will reorder chips soon.

World Services Gary M. reported the next board meeting is next month in Oakland. Still getting World Wide Meeting list straightened out. If you notice any errors, please let Gary know. A registration form for the next conference will
be coming out soon. It will be in April in Albuquerque. 

Events The next event is the marathon meeting in November. It will be in Bellflower at the Calvary Baptist Church. It will be held on Saturday, November 19th from 9am to 9pm. Please check the SCINA website for further information. Check out SCINA.org for more details. There was also discussion around restocking cards for Carry the Message Day in January.

Southern California Intergroup of Nicotine Anonymous

George O. called the meeting to order at 10:15 am with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions. 

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED?
A quorum was met with 16 in attendance. Meetings represented were 001, 012, 023, 047, 076, 084, 229, 231, 255, 266, 268, 270.

Traditions:  Tradition Eight  “Nicotine Anonymous should remain forever non-professional but our service centers may employ special workers” was read from the publication “The Twelve Traditions of Nicotine Anonymous”.  

Secretary report:  Susan C. read the minutes of the July 17, 2011 meeting. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded, and approved to accept them.         

Treasurer report:  Tomoko B reported that in June we started with $698.13 We had meeting donations of $439 plus $18 and the retreat income was $1340. Our expenses were $1,655.28 with an ending balance of $839.85 in June. In July we started with $839.85 with $200 in donations $720 was donated for the retreat. 

Registrar’s report:  Rick W. reported that there were no meetings added or removed in the past month. Secretary and Representative information for Meeting 022 was updated. Rick W. will make an attempt to contact Meeting 252. Meeting 254 has no secretary address. There were no additions or deletions from the H&I listings.


Committee Reports

Hospitals & Institutions  Jeff M. was not in attendance at the August meeting. Joseph W. represented NicA at the City of Commerce Mental Health. It was well received.

Literature: Mike S. reported that SCINA is almost out of everything so he will reorder this month. There was some concern about shipping fees.

World Services Gary M. reported that WS had a meeting in June. The website will be completed by December. Website will have free 7 Minutes download in pdf form. It was decided that outside literature should not be put out at NicA meetings. The World Wide Meeting list is being worked on to correct problems. A survey will be sent out to groups to address two issues. One on gender neutrality and the other on Tradition 11. There was an unauthorized NICA meeting on Facebook and a letter was sent to correct this. Checking into Kindle and Amazon to carry the NicA book.

Events The next event is the NICA picnic on Sunday, September 18th. The picnic will be held at Veterans Park at the corner of Culver and Overland. Brian K. has posted the picnic information on the SCINA website. Prior to the picnic there will be a SCINA meeting including elections for Secretary, Treasurer and Chairperson.

Traditions:  Tradition Seven “Every Nicotine Anonymous group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside contributions” was read from the publication The Twelve Traditions of Nicotine Anonymous”.  


Secretary report:  Susan C. read the minutes of the July 17, 2011 meeting. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded, and approved to accept them. 

Treasurer report:  Tomoko B. was not present at the July 17th meeting. The treasury report was not submitted. 

Registrar’s report:  Rick W. reported that there were no meetings added or removed in the past month. We have lost contact entirely for Meeting 252. The Chair for the World Wide Meeting List that is maintained by NicA World Services, has resigned. The current WSO office manager in Dallas, Texas will assume the responsibility until they can find another Chairperson. The list has fallen into neglect over the past few years.


Committee Reports

Hospitals & Institutions  Jeff M. reported that the Betty Ford Center and the VA Hospital in Palm Desert will do a panel; possibly in Auguest. 

Literature:   Mike S. plans to make a literature reorder soon. Mike will get new order forms to reflect the price increase. Chip inventory is good.  

World Services:  Gary M. requested volunteers for a committee to plan for the World Services Conference in Southern California in 2013.  Alan H. , Jane H. Brian K, George O, and Jeff M. volunteered to serve and Gary will send them a copy of the guidelines to plan the conference. 

Events   Jane H. shared that the retreat was wonderful. People were able to go swimming and everyone had a great time. The food was amazing. Funds were short by $115 due to collection problems. The next event is the NicA picnic and Brian K. has posted the picnic information on the SCINA website.

New Meetings  Gary M. reported that he sent out a starter kit to Marietta (near Temecula)

Bi-Laws Jeff M. started crafting proposals to changes in the Bi-Laws and will complete it by next month.

Public Outreach Jeff M. submitted a comprehensive committee report on all Public Outreach activity. He sent a PSA to local radio station Z107.7 FM. A list of medical professionals is being developed for mailing letters, pamphlets etc. A list of hospitals/health clinics, Alcohol/Drug Treatment centers, Smoking cessation programs and Therapist’s facilities is being developed for future planning. Phone meetings are available at (858) 707-3071 using PIN 766237 - press #. Phone meetings are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 6pm, Wednesday at 4pm. There was discussion around publishing a guide for SCINA to participate in public outreach activities.

Tradition Six  “A Nicotine Anonymous Group ought never endorse, finance or lend the Nicotine Anonymous name to any related facility or outside enterprise lest problems of money, property and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.” was read from the publication “The Twelve Traditions of Nicotine Anonymous”.  

Secretary Report: 

George O read the minutes of the May 15, 2011 meeting. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded, and approved to accept them. 

Treasurer Report: 

Tomoko B presented the May financial report .  The beginning balance was $649.85, Donations were $218.56, Expenses were $170. 28, The ending balance is $698.30. It was moved seconded and approved to accept the financial report. 

Registrar’s Report: 

Rick W. reported that there were no meetings added or removed in the past month. We are currently mailing to 48 of the membership and 38 to outside groups for H & I.  We still need mailing addresses for representatives of meeting 022  Fullerton, 252 Flossie Center,  and 254,  Inglewood. 

The Chair for the World Wide Meeting List that is maintained by NicA World Services, has resigned.  The current WSO office manager in Dallas Texas will assume the responsibility until they can find another Chairperson. The list has fallen into neglect over the past few years. There was discussion of the protocol to add and subtract meetings on the World Wide Meeting list and contacts lost in the move to an email contact list.  

 

Committee Reports

Literature Committee:  

Marty W. reported he hopes to reorder literature soon. Unfortunately, Mike is not here today so he is unable to inventory the materials.  

New Meetings Committee:

Gary M reported he sent out one starter kit.  

World Services Committee 

Gary requested volunteers for a committee to plan for the World Services Conference in Southern California in 2012.  Alan, Jane H. Brian K, George O, and Jeff M. volunteered to serve and Gary will send them a copy of the guidelines to plan the conference,  

Events Committee:

Jane H reported the annual retreat in Joshua Tree, is July 9 and 10.  You can register and pay for the retreat on SCINA’s web site. They have $1,500 so far and need to pay $700 for the caterer.  They need 10 more registrants.  Every year they have a few scholarships through the generosity of a few members.

George R. reported he has reserved a space at Veteran’s Park in Culver City for our Annual Officer’s Election and Picnic next September 18, 2011.

Public Outreach Committee:

Jeff M reported he is starting to contact meetings to determine what they are doing for out reach.  He would like a contact at each meeting to form his committee.  Angela from Costa Mesa shared on a project she has, placing World Services Business cards in a holder in public places.  Jeff will develop a job description for outreach and place something on our web-site to encourage meetings to do outreach projects.

Brian K reported he is updating SCINA’s meeting list on our site.  Heads of committees can put information on the site. Just send the information to Brian. We do get repeat traffic on our site and so he would like to get new material up regularly.

 

New Business

Gary M led a discussion regarding not putting phone numbers on the meeting directory on our Web site.  He felt using the phone numbers is a violation of the 4th and 11th Tradition.  Brian had taken the phone numbers off our Web Site until Intergroup can take a group conscience. The discussion determined: 

  • Our forms do let people know we will use their phone numbers for contact.
  • We want to make it as easy and comfortable as possible for newcomers to find and contact us.
  • The issue has more to do with privacy than anonymity.

 

It was moved seconded and approved to continue to use meeting contact phone numbers on our directory and web site.

Southern California Intergroup of Nicotine Anonymous

George O. called the meeting to order at
10:  14 a.m. with the Serenity Prayer followed
by introductions.

A quorum was met with 12 members in attendance.  

Traditions:  Tradition 5 was read Each group has but one purpose to carry its message to the nicotine addict who still suffers.


Secretary report:  Susan C. read the April minutes. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded and approved to accept them.  

Treasurer report:  The April financial report was presented. The beginning balance was $730.74; donations totaled $15.00 plus $9.00. Total paid out was $104.89 leaving an ending balance of $649.85. SCINA also has $938.13 in a reserve account. It was moved, seconded and approved to accept the April report. Tomoko ordered new checks.

Registrar’s report: Rick W. reported that no changes were made on the Administration Contact list. Meeting 270 was added to the Directory this month. No meetings were removed in the past month. Meetings 022, 252, and 254 lack a valid Secretary USPS mailing address. If you are a member of these meetings or if your meeting is not receiving our mailing, please send the representative and/or secretary’s address to Rick whose phone number and email appear on the cover of our monthly directory. Committee Reports

Hospitals and Institutions:  This position is open and we need some one to fill this position. 

Communications:  No report. No concerns. 
Literature:  Marty reported that everything is running smoothly. Marty will need to place a re-order soon. There will be a rate increase on literature by $1.00 and pamphlets will increase by .05. 

World Services:  Gary M. reported that the World Services Conference will be in LA for 2013. We need volunteers to help out. There will be 7 workshops at the conference. Gary M. recommended that NicA only have NicA materials on the table at the World Services Conference. Glenn K. reported that only NicA materials may be sold at the conference. The board will make the decision on this. An excellent newcomer’s booklet is also in the works. Judy D. and Mary P. will attend the conference as delegates. If you are interested in being a delegate please contact Gary M. at (310) 755-5582. George O. will chair the position and needs lots of volunteers. Gary will email conference guidelines to Brian who will post it on the website.

Events:  Jane distributed flyers for the annual retreat to representatives to pass out at meetings. If you are interested in attending the retreat this year please contact Jane at (323) 852-1518. Brian K. has posted this event online. George O. will follow up with George R. about the annual picnic in September. 

New Meetings:  No new meetings.

Bylaws: Jeff M. has not received anything from Mary P. this past month. 

Public Outreach/Speakers Bureau: Jeff M. has agreed to chair the public outreach committee.

Web Czar: Brian K. reported that we SCINA may need to file with the IRS. Gary M. will speak with World Services about this. Please sign up on the Speaker List at quitnowla.com or scina.org to volunteer to speak. Brian is also working on a California NicA smart phone application. Please send info to Brian K. as a pdf file so he can add it to the website.

Old Business:  Brian K. is looked into EarthClass Mail - a company that allows electronic mail services. SCINAs current mailbox in Huntington Beach and we are looking for a better solution. Also, the positions for Secretary and Treasurer, H&I and Outreach are still open.  If you are interested or know of another member who may be interested, please attend the next SCINA meeting (3rd Sunday of every month) at White Memorial Hospital or contact George O. at 562-310-0874.

Traditions:  Tradition 4 was read Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or Nicotine Anonymous
as a whole.

Secretary report:  Susan C. read the March minutes. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded and approved to accept them.  

Treasurer report:  The March financial report was presented. The beginning balance was $580.39; donations totaled $260.00 plus $16.00. Total paid out was $125.88 leaving an ending balance of $730.74. SCINA also has $938.13 in a reserve account. It was moved, seconded and approved to accept the March report. A motion was made to give each delegate $100 for the World Services trip. The motion carried.

 

Registrar’s report: Rick W. reported that no meetings were added from the Directory this month. Meeting 269 was deleted. Meetings 252, 254, and 255 lack a valid Secretary USPS mailing address. World Services:  Gary M. reported that some of the 6 workshops at the conference may address online meetings and gender neutrality in the literature. A newcomer’s booklet is also in the works. There were huge expenses moving to Dallas. Our prudent reserve is low due to ordering books and moving. Our literature prices will go up. Judy D. and Mary P. will attend the conference as delegates. Gary M. will submit the proposal to have the World Services Conference 2013 in Los Angeles.
Events:  Jane finalized the July 9th and 10th  retreat reservations at Joshua Tree. It will cost $120 to attend this year because the food cost has gone up. If you are interested in attending this year please contact Jane at (323) 852-1518. Brian K. will work on online registration for this event. George O. will follow up with George R. about the picnic in September. 

New Meetings:  Gary M. sent a starter kit out this month.

Bylaws: Mary P. has some revisions to the bylaws. She will send them to Jeff M. 

Public Outreach: The phone line got a request for some one to come to Share facility to man a booth from 9-4 on May 14th. In addition, we need some one to fill this position. George O. will call Diane B. to get information.

Web Czar:  Brian K. was not in attendance. Please send any suggestions directly to Brian K at quitnowla.com or scina.org. Brian K. is working on a PayPal account for taking donations and registration for the retreat.

Traditions:  Tradition 3 was read The only requirement for Nicotine Anonymous membership is a desire to stop using nicotine.

Secretary report:  Susan C. read the February minutes. They were corrected and it was moved, seconded and approved to accept them.  

Treasurer report:  The February financial report was presented. The beginning balance was $172.27; donations totaled $650.00 plus $21.00. Total paid out was $262.88 leaving an ending balance of $580.39. SCINA also has $938.13 in a reserve account. It was moved, seconded and approved to accept the February report.

Registrar’s report:  CHECK Rick W. reported that no meetings were removed or added from the Directory this month. Meeting 007, 047 and 241 information has been updated. Meeting 016 had the second phone contact removed due to illness. Meetings 252, 254, and 255 lack a valid Secretary USPS mailing address.
