MINUTES - June 18, 2017

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERGROUP OF NICOTINE ANONYMOUS

INTRODUCTIONS:  John called the meeting to order at 10:01 am with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.
 
WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED? A quorum was met. The following meetings were represented: Costa Mesa 076, Sherman Oaks 185, Joshua Tree 266, Studio City 273, and San Diego 284.  A motion was made to pass the Minutes from the May 21, 2017 meeting and was passed.
 
TRADITIONS: Tradition #6. “A Nicotine Anonymous group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the Nicotine Anonymous name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property, and prestige divert us from our primary purpose.” was read.

TREASURER REPORT:  Our beginning balance was $940.77.  Income: $15 donation from meeting #76 Costa Mesa. Thank you! A 7th tradition of $16 was collected at the May SCINA meeting. (Total incoming:  $31).  Expenses: $3 Bank fee; Secretary expenses $19.78; No Registrar expenses this month; Grasshopper phone charges: $31.74; PO Box quarterly renewal $50. (Total outgoing $104.52)  Ending balance $867.25. (We have an additional $3,000 in our checking account that Stephen donated to avoid the $18/mo. bank fee which we really can't touch.)

REGISTRAR REPORT:  No changes were made to Administration List.  No Meetings were added. Meeting 001, West Hollywood:  Secretary email corrected. Meeting 059, Moreno Valley:  Meeting location updated. Meeting 076 Costa Mesa, Secretary and Representative USPS Address updated. No meetings were deleted.  All Meetings have USPS contact through their Secretary, their Representative, or e-mail.  No H&I Listings were added, deleted or updated.  No Directories or envelopes were printed, due to June SCINA Meeting being conference call.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS:  No report.  This position is available.

COMMUNICATIONS:  Communications are running smoothly.  There are no concerns at this time.

LITERATURE:  Halli ordered books and will have literature available when he returns from Iceland.  Please contact Halli for orders prior to the meeting at  HalliK@sbcglobal.net.  Please contact Halli if you would like to be of service for this position as he would be glad if someone could take it over for him.
 
WORLD SERVICES:  (1) Subscribe to NicA News on NicA site and look under “what’s new” on the home page, scroll down to “subscribe to NicA News” to be added to our mailing list.  (2) There is a Spanish speaking VONR meeting on Paltalk on Thursdays at 9pm EST.  (3) There are service positions open, email chairperson@nicotine-anonymous.org and ask what’s available. (4) NicA is always looking for new meditations. Submit to DailyMeditations@nicotine-anonymous.org   (5) Public Outreach meetings are 2nd Wednesday of each month at 8pm EST (218) 339-4978, and access code 1471471#.  (6) Gift of Gratitude. Give $10 a month and receive a hardcopy of Seven Minutes in the mail. (7)  If interested–go to the home page of NicA and you can see all the new meetings that have started.

Jeff added that the Fellowship is not represented very well by Delegates at the Conference.  People have been trying to establish World Service areas so that every group in NicA can have a representative at the Conference.  

EVENTS:  The SCINA 18th Annual Joshua Tree Retreat is this coming weekend, June 23-25, starting at 1 pm Friday (first meeting at 2 pm) and ending Sunday at 2 pm.  Current Joshua Tree Finance Report: Estimated expenses $4100, received so far $2805, promised + $555, current shortfall $740.  We need at least 4 more people to come! There is plenty of room.  Please call Jane (442-324-2373) or Bill (818-800-3449) immediately.  Any donations are very welcome.

NEW MEETINGS:  Gary reported he has not been contacted about any new meetings.

PUBLIC OUTREACH:  SCINA continues to post things on Twitter and Instagram.

BY-LAWS:  John wants to place an item on the agenda to discuss and possibly change what is required for a quorum.  Jeff moved that we change the definition of a quorum for SCINA business. Joyce seconded it.  There was discussion and the vote was not passed. Jeff wants to know what would it take to get groups to participate in the Intergroup meetings.

Director of Web Operations:  No report.
 
OLD BUSINESS:  John suggested we have an adhoc committee meeting about hosting the World Services Conference in 2019 or 2020.  Jeff made a motion that we create a World Conference Ad Hoc Committee for SCINA and it was seconded and passed.  John (818) 618-1501 for details.

NEW BUSINESS:  Chad from Minnesota, the Chair Elect for NAWS reported on World Services that he is working with Jeff including reorganizing service structure, media and social outreach.  We’re also working very heavily in the international community trying to grow translations of literature.  Also discussing more possibilities around H&I, jails and hospitals throughout the country.

BIRTHDAYS:  No birthdays were reported for this month.

SECRETARY REPORT:  The June report was read and approved as we did have a quorum.
