SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERGROUP OF NICOTINE ANONYMOUS (SCINA)
INTRODUCTIONS: George O. called the meeting to order at 10:13 AM with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.
WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED? Quorum was met with 11 members in attendance. The following meetings were represented (some members might represent more than one meeting): Costa Mesa 076, Fullerton 84, Sherman Oaks 185, and Long Beach 231.
TRADITIONS: Tradition #11, “Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, television, and films.” was read.
Chairperson’s report: This will be added to the agenda every month starting with the December meeting.
TREASURER REPORT: Beginning Balance $1243.32 plus incoming of $110.00 ($50 donation from meeting Fullerton meeting, $50 from 7th tradition at Annual Picnic, and $10 from 7th tradition at SCINA’s October meeting). This makes the total balance $1353.32. Expenses: registrar expense $16.79 and Grasshopper phone service of $31.79 for total of $48.58 which leaves us with a new beginning balance of $1304.74. Also included is the former $3000 donation from Stephen and that gives us an ending balance of $4304.74. We have a savings account of $500.21. Stephen’s one-time donation of $3000 is used to save a monthly charge of $18 from Bank of America. Reimbursements for picnic will be done soon. George, Angie, and John will visit Bank of America to do the paperwork to give access to the new SCINA officers.
REGISTRAR REPORT: On the Administration List, George O. is now Chair, and Angie B. is Treasurer. No meetings were added, updated, or removed. All Meetings have USPS contact through their Secretary, their Representative, or email. No H&I Listings were added, updated or removed. 40 envelopes were addressed, and 100 Directories were printed.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS: If you have any hospitals or institutions we can add to our monthly email please let us know. For more information, or to be of service, please call Angela P. at (949) 302-8465.
COMMUNICATIONS: The phone lines are running smoothly. No concerns at this time. For more information, or to be of service, please call George O. at (562) 310-0874.
LITERATURE: Chips and literature will now be stored at the SCINA meetings. We need someone to take over this responsibility. Angela went ahead with a new order for business cards and used the Nicotine Anonymous logo instead of the ‘no smoking’ logo which is a logo used by another company. The cost was $116.35 and a Motion was made by George and seconded by Angie to reimburse Angela for the purchase. The vote was unanimous for yes. Income is $176 cash and $69.50 in checks for a total of $245.50. This money will be deposited in our literature bank account.
WORLD SERVICES: No report.
EVENTS: The annual Marathon Meetings event was held yesterday Saturday, November 17. Thank you Joseph for getting the location and being the lead on setting this up again. The Great American Smokeout was November 15, 2018. Joseph reported that two meetings that had committed to participate were no-shows. The event ended at 8 pm because of lack of participation. Let’s think about shortening the amount of hours the Marathon Meetings are held for next year. This will be further discussed after the World Conference. NAWS Public Outreach Committee has designated November as Gratitude Month.
NEW MEETINGS: No new meetings.
PUBLIC OUTREACH: If anyone is willing to take on, or share this position, please contact John D. at (818) 618-1501. We need more help with outreach. Follow us on Facebook at Southern California Intergroup of Nicotine Anonymous.
SPEAKERS LIST: Invite a speaker to your meeting. Call (949) 302-8465 for a list.
BY LAWS: Nothing important has changed.
SAN DIEGO OUTREACH AD HOC COMMITTEE: Motion was made and approved to dissolve this committee.
WORLD CONFERENCE AD HOC COMMITTEE: At the last meeting, the rates were approved for those who want to attend. They are $95 for all meals and registration if someone pays before April 1, 2019, and $105 if someone pays after April 1, 2019. The two meals consist of a Saturday dinner and Sunday brunch. If someone wants to pay for registration and meals separately, then the rates before April 1, 2019 are $35 registration, $40 Saturday dinner, and $30 Sunday brunch. If paid after April 1, 2019, then they are $40 registration, $45 Saturday dinner, and $35 Sunday brunch. Thank you to the committee and those outside the committee for all your hard work planning this conference. The committee meets at 11:30 am on the 3rd Sunday every month immediately following SCINA’s Regular Monthly Meeting. We need your help in planning the Conference. Please contact the Chair of the World Conference Ad Hoc Committee, John D., at johndarnell8@gmail.com or by phone at (818) 618-1501. We will need volunteers. The Conference will be held May 3-5, 2019.
Director of Web Operations: Brian K. has been our web czar for several years. He would like to step down. We are looking for someone with web experience to take over this role. We decided to keep using PayPal at least until the World Conference is over. Any experts out there (or at least more computer web savvy than us) willing to be of service? Please contact George O. at (562) 310-0874.
OLD BUSINESS: At the October 2018 SCINA meeting, the group voted to move “Carry The Message Month” to November each year instead of January, because November is Gratitude Month from World Services. We will not celebrate Carry The Message month in January 2019, and instead we will focus on planning the World Conference in May 2019 since that takes a lot of our time to plan.
NEW BUSINESS: Due to lack of attendance, the secretary of the Sherman Oaks meeting told us he might close the meeting and move it to Sunland on a different night. Chairperson’s report has been reinstated on the agenda for the SCINA meetings.
BIRTHDAYS: Gary M. on 11/21/18 (20 years), Greg S. (9 years), Liz G. on 11/5/18 (5 years).
SECRETARY REPORT: Motion was made and approved for this month’s Minutes.
CLOSING PRAYER: George O. led us in the Serenity Prayer at 11:51 am.
