MINUTES of SCINA Meeting - Sunday, December 15, 2019

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA INTERGROUP OF NICOTINE ANONYMOUS (SCINA)

INTRODUCTIONS:  George O. called the meeting to order at 10:23 am with the Serenity Prayer followed by introductions.

WAS YOUR MEETING REPRESENTED?  Quorum was not met with 6 members in attendance.  The following meetings were represented:  Long Beach 012, Long Beach 231 and Laguna Beach 257.

TRADITIONS: Tradition #12, “Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditions, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities.” was read.

Required Minimum in checking account is $3,000 to avoid $18/month bank fee, therefore $1,767.23 is actually available.  The SCINA.org domain name payment was taken from the checking account that SCINA uses for its chips and literature.  This bank account needs to be reimbursed $100.99 from SCINA’s regular checking account.

A vote will be held 2/16/2020 to increase our prudent reserve to be a reserve of 6 months and a flyer is included with details of the vote to change the Bylaws.  A donation to World Services was tabled for next month.

REGISTRAR REPORT: No changes were made to the Administration List.  No meetings were added.  No Meetings were updated. No Meetings were removed.  All Meetings have USPS contact through their Secretary, their Representative, or email. No H&I Listings were added, updated or removed.  37 envelopes were addressed, and 90 Directories were printed.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS:  Ask your doctors and dentists if they want to receive a copy of our meeting list to give to their patients.  Get their email address for me.  For more information, or to be of service, call Angela P. at (949) 302-8465.  Lamont is trying to get listed as a sponsor in the Sheriff’s Association for Nicotine Anonymous so he is approved to get in to the jail system to facilitate meetings.  We will provide an introductory letter for him.

COMMUNICATIONS:  The phone lines are running smoothly.  No concerns at this time.   For more information, or to be of service, please call George O. at (562) 310-0874. 

LITERATURE:  We need someone to take over the Literature position at SCINA.  Please consult your Higher Power, and if interested, please contact George O. at (562) 310-0874 or come to one of our Intergroup meetings.  The current balance in the literature account is $700.47.

WORLD SERVICES:  No report this month.

EVENTS:  The annual Marathon Meetings event was Saturday, November 23, 2019.  It was a great success due to all the people who attended.  We took in $191 and paid $100 for the room.  We would like to give special thanks to Joseph W. again for his service on this event.  If your meeting is interested in hosting an event, please work with us so we can help advertise the event.  Lamont suggested we pull a meeting out of a hat to spotlight it for the month. We will start next month. 

NEW MEETINGS:  As new meetings go, there hasn't been a call in months.When I first came aboard we had many meetings with a lot of good attendance and now we have 19 meetings? If you want to start a new meeting, you can find information and receive a free packet at www.nicotine-anonymous.org.

PUBLIC OUTREACH:  If anyone is willing to take on or share the Public Outreach position, please contact John D. at (818) 618-1501.  We need more help with Intergroup outreach.  It is important to have a representative at the Intergroup meetings to tell us how we can help. The point of contact is needed.

SPEAKERS LIST:  Invite a speaker to your meeting.  Call (949) 302-8465 for a list.

BY LAWS:  A vote to change prudent cash reserve will be held 2/16/2020.  Please attend the Intergroup meeting that day.

WEB OPERATIONS:  If anyone is willing to take on the Web Operations role, please contact Brian K. at (310) 497-5925. Rick is looking into redesigning the appearance of the website.

OLD BUSINESS:  No old business.

NEW BUSINESS:   SCINA is looking into doing a SWOT analysis to see how we can update ourselves to do a better job for the Fellowship.

BIRTHDAYS:  Alan C. celebrates 19 years this month. Happy Birthday!

SECRETARY REPORT:  December Minutes were read and corrected.  Motion could not be made to approve them, as we did not have a quorum.
