COMMITTEE REPORTS:
HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS: Please send additional email contacts for our meeting list; ask your doctors and dentists. For more information, or to be of service, call Angela P. at (949) 302-8465 or angela.socal9@gmail.com.
COMMUNICATIONS: The phone lines are running smoothly. We had discussion about discontinuing the phone line and using the NAWS # to save money due to a low number of donations in 2019. For more information, or to be of service, please call George O. at (562) 310-0874.
LITERATURE: We need a volunteer for the Literature position at SCINA. Please consult your Higher Power, and if interested, please contact George O. at (562) 310-0874 or come to one of our Intergroup meetings. We placed an order for chips and literature of $449.69 The current balance in the literature account is $721.77.
WORLD SERVICES: It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Nicotine Anonymous World Services (NAWS) Office Manager, Teresa I. She is the one who fulfilled all of your book orders for the last decade. Bill P., who is a former NAWS Chair and Treasurer, has been contracted by NAWS to assume Office Manager duties. He lives near Teresa, so our address on Mockingbird Lane will not need to be changed. Orders may be delayed as he gets set-up.
The 2020 Nicotine Anonymous World Service Conference will be held this coming weekend, April 25th and 26th by remote attendance ONLY. The registration fee is $20.00. NAWS has extended the deadline to register as a delegate until this Friday, April 24th.
Gary is attending as a delegate with VONR. Bill and Angie, as members of the Board, do not need to take a delegate spot. SCINA will have John D., Angela P., Jeff M., George O., and JudiAh D. as delegates, so there is one delegate position open. If you would like the one slot please let us know right away so you can read the delegate package beforehand. There are two workshops planned: one on a new Sponsorship booklet, and another on writing entries for the new “A Year of Miracles.”
EVENTS: The meeting of the month is suspended until further notice. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Joshua Tree event, scheduled for June 12-14, 2020, will be cancelled. The retreat center has informed us they do not have money to pay back the $1,000 deposit, so we are working to get a contract for 2021. We thought of rescheduling to later in the year, but we already have the Picnic in September and Marathon Meetings in November, plus with fear of the virus coming back in the Fall, it may be best to cancel it this year, but we will play it by ear.
NEW MEETINGS: Gary reports no new meetings. If you want to start a new meeting, you can find information and receive a free packet at www.nicotine-anonymous.org. Call Gary M. with questions (310) 755-5582.
PUBLIC OUTREACH: If anyone is willing to take on or share the Public Outreach position, please contact John D. at (818) 618-1501. We need more help with Intergroup outreach. Send your Meeting Representative to the Intergroup meetings to tell us how we can help you. The point of contact is needed.
SPEAKERS LIST: Invite a speaker to your meeting. Call (949) 302-8465 for a list.
BY LAWS: No report.
WEB OPERATIONS: Rick W. is still working on the design of the web page.
OLD BUSINESS: SCINA is looking into doing a SWOT analysis to see how we can update ourselves to do a better job for the Fellowship. Please offer your input at our next meetings.
NEW BUSINESS: Just a reminder the meetings are self-supporting and do need your donations to be able to pay for their meeting rooms. Donate to SCINA at www.QuitNowLA.com.
Please note that the following meetings are suspended until further notice due to concerns with COVID-19: Glendale, Monday night; Silverlake, Friday night; Studio City, Sunday night; Laguna Beach, Thursday night. Due to recent events, SCINA has purchased a zoom account on a temporary basis for SCINA Fellowship meetings. If you would like to use the zoom account for your meeting, please contact John D. at SCINAtreasurer@gmail.com. Remember that both phone and internet meetings are available daily. For a directory of meetings, check out the Nicotine Anonymous website at www.nicotine-anonymous.org.
