COMMITTEE REPORTS:

HOSPITALS AND INSTITUTIONS:  Please send additional email contacts for our meeting list; ask your doctors and dentists.  For more information, or to be of service, call Angela P. at (949) 302-8465 or angela.socal9@gmail.com.

COMMUNICATIONS:  We received no phone calls this month.  Discussion was tabled until next month about discontinuing the phone line and using the NAWS # to save money due to a low number of donations in 2019.   For more information, or to be of service, please call George O. at (562) 310-0874.

LITERATURE:  We need a volunteer for the Literature position at SCINA.  Please consult your Higher Power, and if interested, please contact George O. at (562) 310-0874 or join one of our virtual conference Intergroup meetings.  The current balance in the literature account is $721.77.

WORLD SERVICES:  The 2020 Nicotine Anonymous World Service (NAWS) Conference was a “virtual” success.  SCINA’s own John D. was elected Chair-Elect.  Damara R. from San Francisco will serve as Treasurer-Elect and Tammy T. from the UK as Secretary-Elect.  The new Sponsorship Booklet was approved by the delegates and is now conference-approved literature. No release date has been set.  SCINA’s Bill H. is now Active Chair and Angie B. is Secretary-Emeritus.  There are several NAWS service positions open, including the Worldwide Meeting List Coordinator and an assistant to help with website updates.  Please contact Bill H. at whca111@gmail.com if interested.

EVENTS:  The meeting of the month is suspended until further notice.  The Joshua Tree Retreat Center, which is unable to return our deposit due to a drastic loss of business this year, has agreed to offer us the same price next year.  (They had previously told us prices would be going up next year.)  We have reserved June 25-27, 2021 (the weekend before July 4th), so mark your calendars.  Jeff M. from Joshua Tree and Jane H. from La Quinta are suggesting an online virtual conferencing “Joshua Tree” retreat day some time this summer.  More details next month.

Picnic Coordinator George R. reports he was informed the parks in LA and Orange County will be closed for the rest of the year.  The picnic will be canceled for this year, but we will still have our virtual online Intergroup meeting in September, where elections will be held.  Bill H, Angie B, and John D. have taken on positions at World Services and we need your help in stepping up at the Intergroup level.  Please consult your Higher Power.

NEW MEETINGS:  No report.

PUBLIC OUTREACH:  If anyone is willing to take on or share the Public Outreach position, please contact John D. at (818) 618-1501.  We need more help with Intergroup outreach.  Send your Meeting Representative to the Intergroup meetings to tell us how we can help you. The point of contact is needed.  If your meeting has been interrupted due to the shutdown, please see our meeting list for meetings which are still getting together online and conference calls.

SPEAKERS LIST:  Invite a speaker to your meeting.  Call (949) 302-8465 for a list.

BY LAWS:  No report.

WEB OPERATIONS:  Rick W. is still working on the design of the web page.  Content is being checked and updated as needed to reflect the effects of the response to the pandemic.

OLD BUSINESS:  Just a reminder, the meetings are self-supporting and do need your donations to be able to pay for their meeting rooms.  Donate to SCINA at www.QuitNowLA.com.

Due to recent events, SCINA has purchased a zoom account on a temporary basis for SCINA Fellowship meetings.  If you would like to use the zoom account for your meeting, please contact John D. at SCINAtreasurer@gmail.com.  Remember that both phone and internet meetings are available daily.  For a directory of meetings, check out the Nicotine Anonymous website at www.nicotine-anonymous.org.

NEW BUSINESS:  See Events section regarding online meetings for Retreat.

BIRTHDAYS:  Judi M. (Costa Mesa) 9 years and William (Huntington Beach) 37 years!  Congratulations.

SECRETARY REPORT:  May minutes were read and corrected.  We could not approve the Minutes as we did not have a quorum.

CLOSING PRAYER:  Nelda led us in the Serenity Prayer at 11:06 am.
